Mediation is helping people resolve conflicts peacefully.
It isn’t about winning or losing…bringing in witnesses…or stacks of evidence. It is not about proving anyone wrong. Instead it is about each person deciding what he or she needs in order to solve a problem – and coming up with a solution that everyone agrees will work.

Divorce/Custody Mediation: This is a special service offered to help folks navigate divorce and custody issues. Mediators will help you and your partner identify issues that need to be resolved, disclose relevant financial information, discuss parenting expectations and children’s living arrangements, and explore needs and interests, generate settlement options, and seek an agreement you both can live with.
Benefits of Divorce/Custody Mediation include:
- Clients retain control over important financial and parenting decisions.
- Mediation promotes cooperation and communication, which may improve the post-divorce relationship.
- Reduced conflict between parents eases stress on children.
- All proceedings are confidential, so public disclosure or personal information can be avoided.
- Because the parties do the negotiating, mediation is typically less expensive than litigation.
Mediation also offers family services relating to:
- separation of married or unmarried partners
- post-divorce parenting and grandparenting arrangements
- parent or step-parent/child concerns
- adoption and legal guardianship
- pre-nuptial or habitation agreements
- estate controversies
- family business conflicts
Lebanon Mediation Service is a local, non-profit program using professionally trained volunteer mediators. Disputing parties come together in a neutral setting to work through their problems and find an agreement acceptable to both.
Mediation is simple. First we speak with you by telephone, privately and confidentially, to hear your perspective and answer any questions you may have about the mediation process. Then, if the parties aggress, we will arrange for both to meet with two mediators.
Mediators will remain neutral and do not represent either party. They do not take sides, place blame, or tell people what to do. Their goal is to help resolve conflicts between persons.
For some services, a small fee is charged. Donations are accepted to help pay for the expenses incurred by the program.
The use of Lebanon County Mediation Services has been encouraged by local governments and agencies.
